Ty Oshiro of Port Chester is one of more than 1,100 students who enrolled at SUNY Delhi for the Fall 2023 semester. Ty is pursuing a degree in Accounting.

Khayri West of Port Chester is one of ten 2023 Westchester Community College graduates to receive a SUNY WCC PepsiCo SMILE Scholarship of up to $25,000 a year to pursue a bachelor’s degree. West is attending Pace University where he is majoring in Computer and Information Sciences.

Cinthya Tigre of Port Chester was named a 2023 Presidential Scholar at the University at Buffalo. Presidential Scholars are first-year students who are among the most academically accomplished students in the nation. Presidential Scholars who are NYS residents receive the Presidential Scholarship, valued at $15,000 annually, renewable for four years of undergraduate study. Presidential Scholars are admitted to the UB Honors College. They enjoy many benefits designed to foster academic and personal success—including but not limited to personalized advisement, faculty mentorship, priority registration, access to unique funding opportunities, specialized living communities and a network of global honors alumni. To maintain their scholarship, Presidential Scholars must uphold their enrollment in the Honors College with an overall GPA of at least 3.30 during their first year and an overall GPA of at least a 3.50 for successive years.

The Village of Port Chester is looking for its 2023 Christmas tree to light up Liberty Square during the holiday season. If you are interested in having an evergreen on your property evaluated to be the village’s 2023 Christmas tree, please notify Mayor Luis Marino’s office by telephone at 914-939-2200 or send an email to the attention of Mary Anne Veltri at [email protected]. The selected tree should stand approximately 21 feet tall.

Port Chester Recreation’s First Halloween House Decorating Contest is being held with registration by Sun., Oct. 29. There will be prizes for winners. Be spooky, be scary, we dare you! Participants must be registered or nominated by an admirer to be judged. Make sure all lights, animations and decorations are in place and activated between 6-9 p.m. Mon., Oct. 30. Rye Brook Recreation is holding a Pumpkin Sale. Go by the Recreation Dept. at 938 King St. (1st floor of Village Hall), Mon.-Fri., 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and pick out a pumpkin. $10 each. Many different sizes available.

The Westchester County Board of Legislators unanimously passed a resolution Monday, Oct. 16 in support of the people of Israel. This resolution was drafted in response to the atrocities committed by the terrorist organization Hamas Oct. 7 against the people of Israel. This unprecedented series of terrorist attacks was the single most horrific attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust and resulted in the massacre of over 1,400 Israelis and abduction of over 200 hostages, plus the death and abduction of over a hundred foreign nationals including Americans.

Westchester County’s SMART Commute Program, Feeding Westchester and Stop & Shop (including the Port Chester store) are participating in the 5th Annual Bee-Line Stuff a Bus Food Drive Fri. & Sat., Oct. 20 & 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. A Bee-Line bus will be on site to accept non-perishable food donations at Stop & Shop in Port Chester. The PCHS Marching Band is holding its annual fruit sale thru Nov. 12. Navel oranges, red grapefruit, fruit samplers and cheesecakes can be ordered online at freshfruitorder.org/portchester. The band or color guard members credited with the sale will be responsible for delivering the items Sat., Dec. 2. Certain holiday gift items can be ordered for delivering via UPS Ground within the continental U.S.
