St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 761 King St., Rye Brook, will host an observance of Kristallnacht, (the Night of Broken Glass), Fri., Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. Kristallnacht took place Nov. 9-10, 1938. It was an event that marked a sharp increase in open violence against the Jews in Nazi Germany including the destruction of synagogues and the murder of Jews. There will be brief prayers and reflections. This date also commemorates the attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. The names of the 11 worshippers who were killed that day will be read, and the church will toll their bell for each of those lost that day. The event will also recall the hate crime mass shootings at Mother Emanuel Church, Buffalo, Orlando and others. The community is invited to attend.
A Howl-o-Ween Dog Parade will be held Sat., Oct. 28 in Pine Ridge Park, Latonia Road, Rye Brook. 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Registration: 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. There will be prizes for the best three dog costumes, animals for adoption, service dog demonstrations and a parade at 12:30 p.m. They will be taking donations for the HSW wish list.
