Labor Day will be observed Mon., Sept 4. It is a federal holiday in the U.S. celebrated on the first Monday in September to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the U.S. Government offices in the Villages of Port Chester and Rye Brook and the Town of Rye will be closed as will most banks, the library and the post office—no mail delivery. In Port Chester Mon. garbage will be collected Tues., Tues. collections move to Wed., Wed.-Fri. collections are unchanged. No bulk or green waste collection this week. In Rye Brook Mon. garbage will be collected Tues., Tues. collections move to Wed., Wed.-Fri. collections are unchanged as is bulk collection. No green waste collection this week.

Clay Art Center, 40 Beech St., Port Chester, will present Functional Fall--A Seat at the Table: CAC National Juried Exhibition Fri., Sept. 1-Oct. 16 in the gallery and online. The exhibition is comprised of functional ceramics from more than 40 artists across the U.S. and brings everyone to the table through ceramics that serve. There will be an opening reception Sat., Sept. 9, 6-8 p.m. Meet participating artists, enjoy light refreshments and be there for the announcement of juror prizes.
