As Lady Trojans soccer enters the middle of the season, the team continues to heat up against the league’s most difficult opponents. Currently the seventh seed out of 13 in Section One Class B, Blind Brook has two wins, two losses, and one tie. Even if the scores do not always show it, the Trojans have played a tough game that proves they will never go down easily.

On Thursday, Sept. 14, the Trojans met Croton-Harmon at home for their second match of the season. In a razor-tight game, Blind Brook’s nearly impenetrable defense battled a similarly strong Tiger defense, staying scoreless deep into the game. The Trojans’ score came from senior Alexandra Beatty off a penalty kick, finally breaking the even zeroes. After two 10-minute halves of overtime, the Trojans and Tigers parted ways with a draw, 1-1.

After almost a weeklong break, Blind Brook stayed at home on Wednesday, Sept. 20 to take on an always-tough matchup: Briarcliff. The Trojans saw success across the field against the Bears, with underclassmen having a particularly strong showing. Sophomores Eliza Barnett and Kendall Konigsberg both got the ball in the back of the net for the Trojans, and the defense stood strong aiding them. Blind Brook came out victorious, securing a statement 2-1 win over Briarcliff.

Everybody knows that the best games are the ones that go down to the wire, the ones where nobody, not even the players, know how it will end. For both the fans and the players, the Lady Trojans’ home game against Westlake on Thursday, Sept. 21 certainly fit the bill of a classic. With both teams' defensive lines unbreakable, the game ended regulation tied at 0-0. Ten minutes later, after a full overtime period, the even score remained. Then, down to the last 10 minutes in the next-score-wins second round of overtime, Trojan junior Makayla Dutra got hold of the ball, and, using her chest, managed to get it past the goalie and into the back of the net. Suddenly, the Trojans were on top, and the game was over with a thrilling 1-0 victory.

With Blind Brook seeded at number two in the class, their Tuesday, Sept. 26 home matchup was set to be a tough one. The Trojans dominated the field for the first half, maintaining possession in the Panthers’ territory for most of the time. Led by senior Beatty’s goal, along with quality ball control and passing from her teammates to get her there, the Trojans were even with Rye Neck at 1-1 as they entered the second half. The latter half of the game saw less Trojan dominance, ultimately bringing them down to a heartbreaking 2-1 loss.

The Lady Trojans will play under the lights for Homecoming against Valhalla on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m., marking their first time in prime time in several years. On Monday, Oct. 2, the team takes to the road for the first time since the first game of the season to take on Pleasantville, kicking off at 4:30 p.m. On Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 4:30 p.m., Blind Brook will travel to Briarcliff to try and sweep the season series and attempt the same at Westlake the next day, Thursday, Oct. 5, at the same time.
