Saying hello to spring and goodbye to winter means one thing: it is finally that time of year when we get to hear the glorious sound of a bat making contact with a softball, sending it soaring across the field. For Blind Brook’s varsity softball team, the season could not come soon enough. After a down year, the team is poised for a comeback.

The 2023 Trojans had their fair share of struggles, ending the year with only two wins while missing the playoffs. Despite clear difficulties, the highlights clearly outshone the troubles. The first win of the year came at a great moment in the Coach Al Classic—a matchup with Alexander Hamilton to honor the legendary Coach Alan Striar. The team created lasting bonds and ultimately sent off their seniors in a bittersweet manner. Captain Halle Greaige even went on to continue her softball career at Purchase College.

This year, all signs are pointing up for the Trojans, two of whom, sophomores Charlotte Florin and Bella Montesano, were already scouted by LoHud for their 2024 watchlist—an elite shortlist of the top players to pay attention to in Section 1. A young team leads the way for the program, preparing for what they hope to be a strong year.

Several games will mark key moments in the season for the Trojans. First, Blind Brook kicks off the year at home on Thursday, Apr. 4 against Riverside High School in Yonkers. They will then stay at home the next day, Friday, Apr. 5, for a 4:30 p.m. matchup against Yonkers Montessori. The streak continues on Saturday, Apr. 6 when the Trojans go crosstown to face Port Chester with an 11 a.m. first pitch. After a quick break of a few days, the Trojans will get back on the diamond at home on Wednesday, Apr. 10 to take on North Salem, also at 4:30 p.m. Blind Brook will stay at home the next day, Thursday, Apr. 11, for another 4:30 game, this time against The Leffell School. Finally, save the date for the Saturday, Apr. 27 home game against Rye Neck when the Trojans will host a fundraiser for Hope At Bat, an organization supporting the American Cancer Society through softball and baseball teams nationwide. That game starts at 9:30 a.m.
