Joseph R. Shanley, 83, of Spring Hill, Fla., formerly of Port Chester, died peacefully at home Mar. 25, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends.
He was born in the Bronx to Thomas and Mary (Kelly) Shanley, who predeceased him, and was a graduate of Yorktown Heights High School Class of 1957.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1957 and was a proud veteran.
Mr. Shanley was employed as an ironworker for 43 years and was a lifetime member of Ironworkers Local 580.
He married the love of his life, Annette (Kelley) Shanley, Sept. 28, 2002, and they retired together and moved to Florida to enjoy their retirement. They sure did, taking many cruises and road trips.
He is survived by his loving wife Annette, three daughters: Corine Duby (Tiger), Holly Beckett and Cas Shanley of Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Christine, Coral, and RJ, all of Tucson; two great-grandchildren, Claire and Ashlynn, also of Tucson, his loving niece Lauren Marie (monkey-face) Jernigan of Florida and sister-in-law Maureen Jernigan (Phil Gignac) of Florida.
He was predeceased by his sister, Beverly Shanley, and his daughter, Tricia Nelson.
He will be missed by so many. Always the life of a party with the best sense of humor, his smile lit up the room.
Interment will be at Bushnell Florida Military Cemetery at a future date.
