The Port Chester Hispanic Advisory Board, in coordination with the office of County Executive Goerge Latimer, will host a Resource Fair on Adee Street in Port Chester on Sunday, May 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will take place between North Main Street and Abendroth Avenue—in front of the Walgreen’s parking lot. The rain location will be the Putnam and Mellor Engine & Hose Company Firehouse located at 46 S. Main St.

The Fair will bring together various organizations from the Village and County that provide services to Hispanic residents.

“I hear from residents all the time, and they have so many needs and questions,” said Juliana Alzate, Village Trustee and founding member of the Advisory Board. “The problem isn’t necessarily a lack of resources—there are just so many, and they can be hard to find sometimes. This event is a step in the right direction in terms of linking those resources with those who need them.”

The Port Chester Hispanic Advisory Board was formed in early 2023 as a response to numerous requests from the community for access to resources.

“If you ask just about any non-governmental or non-profit organization, they will tell you how difficult and expensive it is to get the word out about the good work they do,” said one of the organization’s board members Linda Turturino. “So not only is it hard for residents to find relevant information when they need it, but the service providers can use help in spreading the word as well. We hope that this event will be an annual event as part of our overall effort to help link people with the support and services they need. It’s like the pieces are all there, and it is our goal to put them all together.”

In addition to the fair, the board is also working on other projects, including a program in which high school students can earn community service credits through a variety of volunteer opportunities, and hosting small, informal town hall style events to serve as an open forum for Spanish-speaking residents to share their concerns and network. They are also working to build a comprehensive directory of services for Spanish-speaking residents of the Village of Port Chester and beyond.
