The Blind Brook Trojans boys’ varsity lacrosse team kicked off their season with an impressive victory against Nanuet, winning 12-5 in their home opener on Thursday, Mar. 28. The first game for the Trojans not only of the season but also on a different home field—the Rye Brook Athletic Field on King Street—showed that the team is getting to work.

Led by first-year senior captain Michael Berman Annunziata, who netted four goals and provided two assists, the Trojans showcased their determination and skill right from the start. Seniors Hudson McRedmond and Tomo Yamano also made significant contributions, with McRedmond scoring two goals and providing one assist, and Yamano adding one goal to the scoreboard.

Additionally, sophomores Tyler Taerstein and Chase Katz each scored two goals, with Taerstein tallying three assists and Katz contributing one. Notably, eighth grader Ethan Carey secured his first varsity goal, and junior Zach Taerstein chipped in with one goal and two assists.

The Trojans were scheduled to play at Croton-Harmon on Wednesday, Apr. 3, but the game was canceled due to rainy and windy weather conditions. This game will be rescheduled soon.

The win against Nanuet set a promising tone for the Trojans' season, showcasing their potential for success. However, their next matchup against Fox Lane on Saturday, Apr. 6 presented a tougher challenge.

From the beginning of the game, there was no hiding that both teams wanted the win for themselves which sparked extra competitiveness in the air. Despite facing difficulty in the first half, the Trojans rallied together during halftime under Coach Jason Einaugler’s guidance to refocus and regain their momentum. The team was not going to get down over the fact that they were losing, but they had to fix it.

“Look at your brothers, every single one of you does something on that field, so show them,” he said. The words from Coach E stayed with the boys throughout the rest of the game. Even though Blind Brook didn’t end up taking the win, they never lost energy during the game and are now aware that they will face many more challenging teams that do not want to see them winning.

Goalie Ethan Leland overall had a good game ending with 16 saves. In the first half, Leland got called with a penalty leading him to be out of the game for a little while. The Trojans put in senior Eduardo Almeida for the time being before Leland was allowed to play again. This call caused frustration in the senior goalie and the rest of the team. However, they had each other to overcome just one of the many challenges they would be facing.

Even though the boys ended up taking their first loss of the season, they are determined to outwork all of their future opponents.

On Monday, Apr. 8, the Trojans played an away game at Eastchester. This definitive 17-1victory made up for their previous loss. The Trojans brought their all to the field that day and showed they were ready to win.

Tyler Taerstein got four goals and one assist, Berman Annunziata had three goals and two assists, Hudson McRedmond had two goals and one assist, Katz had one goal and one assist, Martin Otero had two goals, Trevor Feist had one goal, Yamano had one goal, Seth Low had one goal, Gavin Zislis had one goal, Ethan Carey had one assist, and Cameron Scott had one assist.

The Eastchester game’s overall results clearly show that after facing one bump in the road, they looked past it and took the victory.

The Trojans got to have more freedom while playing against Eastchester because of having a higher score throughout the game. This confidence allowed the team to take more shots and run plays like it was a practice. Even though the Trojans were winning throughout the game, they never took their foot off the pedal when it came to winning ground balls and running up and down the field.

The victory was accomplished due to the awareness the boys had after losing to Fox Lane as well as figuring out what they had to fix as a team and individually as players.

Overall, the Trojans have been through their ups and downs and are only looking at the future within their 2024 season. As a team, they proved that one tough loss will not get them down but will only bring them up.

The next game for the Trojans was scheduled for after press time Wednesday, Apr. 10 at Westlake. Their following contest will be against Carmel next Thursday, Apr. 18 at home at 4:30 p.m.
