Blind Brook’s varsity softball team has been hot at the plate to start off what has already been an intriguing season for the Trojans.
Opening the season with a big 29-13 win over Riverside High School, the Trojans rounded out the first three games 1-2, with a loss each to Yonkers Montessori and the crosstown rivals of Port Chester. Especially noteworthy during these three games was the performance of sophomore captain Bella Montesano, with both a grand slam and a three-run home run complementing her impressive 1.000 batting average.
The Trojans came back to their home field on Wednesday, Apr. 10 to take on North Salem. The Red Raiders proved to be a tough match for Blind Brook, logging double-digit strikeouts on the Trojans while simultaneously succeeding on offense. Blind Brook ultimately fell to North Salem in a hard-fought game, losing 20-5.
Blind Brook stayed at home for another match the next day, Thursday, Apr. 11, this time against The Leffell School. Once again, the Trojans saw difficulty against the Lions, struggling on defense and being kept tame at the plate. The Trojans lost 18-3 to Leffell, ready to go into a much-needed few days off to reset.
Following the weekend, Blind Brook had to quickly shake off the slight sting of a few consecutive losses, traveling to Yonkers to take on the Barack Obama School for Social Justice on Monday, Apr. 15. The Trojans clearly rebounded from the losses, showing strength in both their pitching and hitting against the Lightning. Montesano hit her second grand slam of the season, with contributions on offense by sophomore Kendall Konigsberg and captains Natalia Vivenzio and Charlotte Florin. Konigsberg was also responsible for three strikeouts as a pitcher. The Trojans ultimately came out on top against the Obama School, winning 16-1.
The Trojans stayed on the high of a well-deserved win still at home on Tuesday, Apr. 16 against Briarcliff. Although the Trojans did see some success on offense, knocking in plenty of runs, they saw greater difficulty taking on the Bears from the field. Blind Brook tacked on another loss against Briarcliff , falling 26-8 and giving them a 2-5 record for the season.
The next game is not until Thursday, Apr. 25 when the Trojans will play Valhalla at home followed by a Friday, Apr. 26 contest against Pleasantville who will come to Rye Brook to take on the Trojans, with the first pitch for both games at 4:30 p.m. Blind Brook will have an early wake up the next day, Saturday, Apr. 27, for a 9:30 a.m. start against Rye Neck at home supporting Home at Bat.
