Happy birthday to Leovi Fumero of Port Chester who celebrates Apr. 28.

Happy birthday to Nadav Abel who celebrates May 2. He is the son of the late Stephen Abel and Yael Abel of Kibbutz Kfar Charuv, Israel, grandson of the late Mildred and Bernard Abel of Rye Brook and nephew of Richard and Jananne Abel of Port Chester.

The Westchester County Department of Public Works (DPW) will be performing milling and paving roadwork in Port Chester on Pearl Street, between King Street and Irving Avenue, on Thurs., Apr. 25 and Fri., Apr. 26, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., weather permitting.

The next Port Chester High School Marching Band bottle and can recycling collection will be Sun., May 5, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Middle School parking lot on Bowman Avenue, Rye Brook. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Westchester and Putnam, based in Port Chester, is doing wonderful things for at-risk youth. On Sat., Apr. 27, they will host an Ice-Skating Mentor Meetup at the Playland Ice Casino in Rye, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., to introduce potential mentors to the rewards of mentoring. Come by for a skate and meet some of their mentees. Slide into action and see what it takes to mentor and change a young person’s life in the most positive way.

Skates will be provided. Lunch and refreshments will be served.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Westchester and Putnam has positively impacted the lives of more than 450 children in the region. The organization’s dedication and compassionate volunteers have been instrumental in providing mentorship and guidance to at-risk children, empowering them to overcome challenges and realize their full potential.

The Westchester Sports Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for outstanding professional and amateur sportsmen and sportswomen, living or deceased. A prospective candidate must be at least 25 years old and should be a person of integrity and good character who has gained prominence in either professional or amateur sports as a player, coach, manager, official, owner, sports media writer or broadcaster and who has made substantial contributions to sports in Westchester County. Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced four additional designated Free Fishing Days in New York: June 29 & 30, Sept. 28 and Nov. 11. During these days, the fishing license requirement is waived for freshwater fishing on New York’s waters. The Free Fishing Days program provides a great opportunity for aspiring anglers to try freshwater fishing for the first time or former anglers to reconnect with one of America’s favorite pastimes.

Congregation K.T.I. is participating again this school year in Food 2 Grow On to provide bags of groceries each weekend and during school vacations to alleviate hunger and food insecurity among elementary-school aged children at Edison, Park Avenue and King Street schools in Port Chester. They also welcome checks made payable to Food 2 Grow On, mailed c/o the Rotary Club, P.O. Box. 26, Port Chester, NY 10573. Food donations needed include: healthy cereal, peanut butter (14-16 oz. jars), tuna fish, canned fruit (14-18 oz. cans)—store brands are OK. At Congregation KTI it is a Mitzvah (good deed) moment for all to help feed those in the community who are needy. All food collected in KTI’s ongoing drive is being given to the Salvation Army in Port Chester. Food requested includes cans of tuna, chicken, vegetables, beans and fruit as well as pasta, 10-16 oz. bags/boxes of white rice, snacks, shelf-stable milk, healthy cereals, macaroni and cheese and canned meals like Chef-Boy-r-Dee, chili, etc. The food can be left in bins in Leslie Brandeis Novack's driveway at 48 Meadowlark Rd., Rye Brook.
