Michal Nowak, superintendent of the Rye Brook Department of Public Works, has achieved an impressive milestone by reaching Level IV in the Road Master Program, administered by the New York State LTAP Center – Cornell Local Roads Program.

This program recognizes the dedication of local highway officials in developing strong technical and management skills. Level IV represents the highest achievement within the Road Master Program, signifying exceptional commitment to management, mentorship, and training.

Nowak joins a select group as the seventh individual in New York State to attain Road Master Level IV. He was recognized for his new elite status at the Highway Superintendents Association of Rockland County monthly meeting on Mar. 19.

Examples of Mr. Nowak’s achievements that led to this award include:

*Serving as president of the American Public Works Association (APWA) South East Branch, president of the APWA NY Metro Chapter, and president and secretary of the Westchester County Public Works Administrators (WCAMPWA).

*Contributing to the development of new curriculum at NYSLTAP-CLRP, presenting at conferences, and serving as an instructor for the NYSLTAP-CLRP workshops: Rights & Responsibilities and Reducing Liability for Highway & Public Works Departments

*Saving the Village of Rye Brook and the neighboring Villages of Port Chester, Larchmont, and Tuckahoe money by developing and implementing an intermunicipal agreement to share equipment and services on an as-needed basis

“Michal illustrates how a lot can be accomplished in a short period of time with hard work and enthusiasm,” said David Orr, P.E., director, NYS LTAP Center – Cornell Local Roads Program. “The Road Master community continues to be strong with members like Michal.”

The NYS LTAP Center - Cornell Local Roads Program provides training, technical assistance, and information to municipal officials and employees responsible for the maintenance, construction, and management of local highways and bridges in New York State.
