Happy birthday to Scott Moore, retired administrator of the Port Chester-Rye Brook EMS, who celebrates Aug. 19. Thanks, Scott, for all your years serving the community.

Congratulations to Don and Julie Bohl, who celebrated 60 years of marriage on Aug. 15, with heartfelt hopes for many more years of adventures. They have made Glendale Place their home for the last 48 years and raised a family and a neighborhood together! Love, your family.

Lisa Braccia and Emily Sposato, both of Port Chester, and Amanda Winton, Rebecca Starr and Amelie Schlueter, all of Rye Brook, have been named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2024 semester at the University of Delaware in Newark. To meet eligibility requirements for the Dean's List, a student must be enrolled full-time and earn a GPA of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for the semester.

Amy Cohen and Olivia Jaccoma, both of Port Chester, and Gabriella Cuevas Lugo of Rye Brook graduated from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn. in May. At the time of graduation, a student must have earned a minimum of 120 credits and completed at least 38 three- or four-credit courses, depending on the course of study, and have an overall grade point average of 2.0 or better at the conclusion of the senior year.

The next Port Chester High School Marching Band bottle and can recycling collections will be Sun., Aug. 18, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Middle School parking lot on Bowman Avenue, Rye Brook. Carvel shops will celebrate National Soft Serve Day Mon., Aug. 19, by offering 90-cent small cups or cones to guests—limit one small soft serve cup or cone of any flavor per person; toppings available for an extra cost. There are two Carvel stores in Port Chester.

Residents of Port Chester and Rye Brook are eligible for free beach access at Rye Town (Oakland) Beach, 95 Dearborn Ave., Rye, every Tues. thru Aug. 27. Proof of residency is required, and standard parking fees apply. www.townofrye.com

Rye Brook Village offices and the Rye Brook Senior Center will close at 2 p.m. on Fridays in August.

Playland Park in Rye has announced a first-time participation with The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester to offer live music and entertainment at Playland’s Main Stage every other weekend thru-Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. as follows: Aug. 17: Damn the Torpedoes—Tom Petty Concert Experience; Aug. 31: Taylor’s Version—A Swiftie Dance Party. In addition, weekly Friday and Saturday night fireworks take place at 9 p.m. thru Aug. 31, launched from the end of the pier at Playland and viewable from the amusement park, the Playland Boardwalk and from Rye Town Park. Playland has also announced that the world’s largest rubber duck is set to make its grand return to Playland’s Beach from Fri.-Sun., Aug. 16-18 to celebrate the “Second Annual Duck Days of Summer.” The 61’ high Mama Duck and her 10’ high baby duckling, Timmy, will come ashore at Playland’s Beach to add to the family fun as visitors gather for the final weeks of summer vacation. The six-story high spectacle will bring excitement and wonder to the waterfront park, as well as a one-of-a-kind photo opportunity. On Sat. Aug. 17 & 31 at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Playland will offer a special ferry experience departing from the Playland Pier. Join tour guide Barbara Davis, Co-Director of the Westchester County Historical Society on an hour-long voyage through the past, complete with local lore. Playland and The Capitol Theatre are also presenting The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a family concert series, every other Sunday at 2 p.m. until Sept. 1. It translates some of music’s most recognizable anthems into age-appropriate sing-alongs suitable for listeners of all ages with classic titles from a variety of genres such as classic rock, new wave, pop, and pop-punk.
