Giovanna Pirrotta, 78, a longtime cherished resident of Port Chester, died peacefully in her home Aug. 16, 2024 surrounded by her children.
She was born Nov. 14, 1945 in Scilla, Reggio Calabria, Italy to Domenico and Fortunata Gioffre Benedetto who predeceased her.
She was raised and educated in Italy and married the love of her life, Antonio Pirrotta, Dec. 18, 1965.
In the summer of 1975, Giovanna along with her husband and three small children immigrated to the U.S. and settled in Port Chester.
Mrs. Pirrotta first worked for Kaychester Dress Factory for 10 years and then moved on to dedicate the next 30 years to the Port Chester School District as the head cook at the Middle School before retiring in 2016.
Her love of cooking and baking never stopped; if you knew her, you were sure to know she cooked and baked with love and never by measurements and always put her heart into everything she did.
She is survived by her son, Carmelo Pirrotta (Luz Rodriguez) of Port Chester, daughter, Antonia Esposito (Michael Esposito) of New Fairfield, Conn., grandson Andrew Esposito, who was the joy of her life, and her sisters, Santa Benedetto Vita (Clemente) and Angela Benedetto Ottobrini (Pasquale).

Although her family on earth will experience an irreversible change in their lives, her loved ones in heaven are filled with joy at her arrival and the wonderful reunion they have eagerly anticipated.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Fri., Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Parish of St. John Bosco (Corpus Christi), 136 S. Regent St., Port Chester.
She will be laid to rest alongside her husband in their family tomb at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rye Brook.
