Blind Brook Trojans basketball is officially back, and for the boys’ team, the season began with Hastings on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The Trojans are looking promising this year, with a well-rounded squad and a new set of coaches. Captains Noah Brookman and Tyler Taerstein, both who have been part of the varsity squad since their freshman year of high school, are looking to get over the hump of the first round and make a deep playoff push this year.
Countless spot up shooting, conditioning, and defense drills in the past few weeks led the Trojans to the evening of Dec. 4. A 30-minute bus ride later and it was crunch time for Blind Brook. While the first game of the season always comes with a few hiccups, the Trojans played a solid game and got a comfortable 41-36 win over Haldane, beginning the season with four points in the standings table and a spot in first. Tyler Taerstein put up a double double, with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Brookman had 12 points and four assists, and senior Aidan Sachs added five points with three rebounds.
Two nights later, on Friday, Dec. 6, the boys celebrated the win with the girls’ team at “Friday Night Madness” featuring a 3-point contest, free throw contest, raffles, a 6th grade scrimmage and more opportunities for the children of Rye Brook to meet the 2024 varsity basketball teams.
The Trojans would get back to work on Tuesday, Dec. 10 for their home opener versus Haldane. They are back to it on Friday, Dec. 13 at home as Woodlands comes to town at 6:15 p.m. The Trojans will then compete at the Westchester County Center against Pelham on Sunday, Dec. 15 following the Westchester Knicks and Greensboro Swarm game at 6 p.m. They’ll be back home to face Croton-Harmon on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 4:30 p.m.
