Blind Brook girls’ basketball has up and down week
February 7, 2024 at 9:40 p.m.
Lady Trojans basketball had a packed week of ups and downs as they near the end of the regular season. Despite tough losses to Westlake and Pearl River, the team managed to round out the week with an even record, thanks to two dominant wins against Valhalla and Rye Neck, each of which showed the potential they have as a group.
Riding high on a victory against Briarcliff, the Trojans took to Valhalla two days later on Thursday, Feb. 1 looking to spark another win streak. The Trojans took on the challenge with ease, showing little mercy against the struggling Vikings. Sophomore Kendall Konigsberg once again led Blind Brook’s scoring, netting 27 points, while senior captain Kyra Mak added seven and sophomore Oriah Rosenfeld contributed eight. With the help of extra scoring by the rest of the team—along with the three leaders outscoring Valhalla alone—the Trojans prevailed 61-37.
In the days following the win against Valhalla, Blind Brook learned harsh lessons with losses to Westlake and Pearl River. Both are leading squads in their respective leagues, and the Trojans struggled to counter their powerful defenses. Blind Brook had little time to sulk, however, getting back on the court on Monday, Feb. 5 at home to start a fresh week. The Panthers proved to be no match for a win-hungry Trojan team, with many players receiving court time during a dominant run. Sophomore Ella Rosenfeld led scoring with 11, while Konigsberg and freshman Carly Hodes trailed not far behind with 10 apiece, and the rest of the team contributed to a staggering margin. The Panthers saw little success against the Trojans, seeing Blind Brook win by double the scoring of Rye Neck, 54-27.
Blind Brook will have a second try at Pleasantville on Friday, Feb. 9, hoping to even the season series on the road at 4:30 p.m. To close out the regular season, the Trojans will travel to Croton-Harmon for a revenge game of their heartbreaking homecoming loss on Saturday, Feb. 10. The game will tip off at 11 a.m.
