The frustrating loss the Rye Town-Harrison Titans faced versus the Rivertown Legends on Jan. 23 only filled the players from the four schools that make up the team with more determination.

They next took on New Rochelle at Playland Ice Casino in Rye on Tuesday, Jan. 30 for senior night. Seniors Max Tse (captain Harrison), Tyler Beardsley (assistant captain Harrison), Matthew Marsh (Harrison), Shuya Watanabe (Rye Neck) and Jared Rosen (Blind Brook) were all acknowledged for their contributions and achievements throughout their journey, marking both an end and a new beginning for them.

The atmosphere during the game was electrifying and intense, embodying the spirit of competition and excitement, only motivating the players. Players Beardsley, Tse, and Isaac Schultz (assistant junior captain Harrison) had one goal and one assist and Jack Mazzella (Harrison sophomore) netted a goal. Assists were made by Sean Mohr (Rye Neck junior), Julian Gahr (Harrison sophomore), and Peter Boraczek (Harrison sophomore). The Titans won the match 4-3, jumping back on their winning track. The Titans were now 13-1 and it was time to face Horace Greeley on Friday, Feb. 2 at Brewster. The Titans experienced their first tied game of the season, 5-5, giving them a 13-1-1 record. This result sparked a mix of emotions, leaving many players and even fans with a feeling of unfinished business. This game demonstrated the team's resilience and ability to hold their ground against formidable opponents.

Coach Rich Myers had the following insight on the game: “It seems like the team concept broke down and we were playing too much like individuals,” he said. “Greeley played a very defensive game, and we should have been able to figure that out and make the adjustments, but we did not.”

This game served as a critical learning opportunity that called for reflection and strategic recalibration as the team prepared to move on from this experience in pursuit of future victories. “Key player” Mazzella had two goals and one assist, both Schultz and Mohr had one goal and one assist, Tse had one goal, Beardsley had two assists, and Stumpf had 25 saves.

On Sunday, Feb. 4, the Titans defeated Byram Hills 6-3 at Ebersole Ice Rink in White Plains, a huge win for them.

“Our defense and goalie played remarkably in the third period,” Coach Myers reflected. “CJ Stumpf played his best period of his season in the third.”

Stumpf had 40 saves in goal, his highest number this season. Alex Sabino (Harrison junior) and Tse both had one goal and one assist, Schultz had two goals and one assist, Mazzella and Beardsley each had one goal and one assist, and Mohr had two assists.

Coach Myers highlighted the importance of this game: “As a team it was a huge win for us. Byram Hills is the number 1 team in league 2 and only had one loss coming into that game. We have to continue playing as we did in that third period if we want to go deep into the playoffs.”

The Titans would take on Carmel for their last home league game at Playland on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
