The next Port Chester High School Marching Band bottle and can recycling collection will be Sun., Feb. 18, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Middle School parking lot on Bowman Avenue, Rye Brook. Rye Brook Recreation is asking anyone interested in entering a team in the 2024 Adult Men’s Softball League should email Kathy Laoutaris at [email protected] by Feb. 16. They are planning on conducting a pre-season meeting to discuss playing days, new rules, playoffs, etc. Each team must be comprised of at least 60% Rye Brook residents.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced six designated Free Fishing Days in New York: Feb. 17 & 18, June 29 & 30, Sept. 28 and Nov. 11. During these days, the fishing license requirement is waived for freshwater fishing on New York’s waters. The Free Fishing Days program provides a great opportunity for aspiring anglers to try freshwater fishing for the first time or former anglers to reconnect with one of America’s favorite pastimes.

Carver Center will be a recipient of funding under a contract from the Westchester-Putnam Workforce Board (WPWDB). As a Youth Employment Program partner, Carver Center will provide Youth Employment Services to 25 youths, 14 to 20 years of age, beginning Jan. 20, 2024 through June 30, 2024.

The Youth Employment Program provides subsidized job opportunities for youth who meet eligibility guidelines and can provide required documentation.

Youth will be placed in jobs within Carver Center and in other private, public, and non-profit worksites.

Christian Gagnon of Port Chester earned Dean's List honors at The University of Tampa for the Fall 2023 semester. Gagnon is a sophomore majoring in Management BS. Students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher to be eligible for the Dean's List.

Brandon Guerrero of Port Chester was one of 34 SUNY Oneonta students who completed the requirements for a master's degree, Certificate of Advanced Study, or Advanced Certificate Program following the Fall 2023 semester. Graduates were honored and recognized during Fall Commencement, held Dec. 10, 2023 in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House. Guerrero completed the Biology program at the Oneonta, N.Y. university.

Lisa L. Rinaldi of Port Chester received an advanced certificate in teaching English to speakers of other languages from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., on Dec. 16, 2023.

Purchase College announced that more than 1,300 students were named to the Dean's List for the fall semester. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher and taken a minimum of 12 credits. For BA and BS programs, a semester GPA of 3.50 is required. For BFA and MusB programs, a semester GPA of 3.75 is required.
