After a whirlwind season, the year came to a close for Blind Brook’s girls’ basketball team with a playoff loss to Westlake. The team—filled with heart and passion for the sport–exited the court for the final time this season with a 13-8 record and plenty to look back on.

From their undefeated hot streak to start the season to sophomore star Kendall Konigsberg being voted Lohud’s girls’ basketball Player of the Week, fond memories of teamwork and victory overpower any sense of anguish about how the season ended.

The Trojans traveled to Westlake on Tuesday, Feb. 20 for the quarterfinals of the playoffs, playing in the earlier half of a doubleheader in which the Trojan boys also faced off against the Wildcats. Blind Brook—seeded at five–received a bye past the first round to face the four-seeded Wildcats, a strong team they had previously faced and been defeated by twice before during the regular season. The game seemed promising for the Trojans at the half, prior to Westlake pulling away in the third quarter to get ahead in the scoring. Konigsberg led the Trojans in scoring, as she has all year, with 21 points netted for Blind Brook. The final buzzer of the game ended the season in heartbreaking fashion for the Trojans, not with a section title but a 58-48 loss to Westlake in the first round of the playoffs.

Despite this year’s season ending, this Trojan team is nowhere near done. Next year, a majority of the team will return to continue the strengths of this year’s squad, although notably missing seniors Veronica Pallotta and Captain Kyra Mak, another of the Trojans’ top scorers. However, a large returning core will allow the young team to continue to build on this year’s training and push forward their strengths while leaving behind the weaknesses. There is nothing to worry about for the future of Lady Trojans basketball.
