It is easy to call any high school team great for the sake of an article. Blind Brook’s girls’ basketball team, however, makes this not an exaggeration, but a reality. The team has been on a tear to start the year, winning six straight before finally getting their first loss. Because of their stellar gameplay, the Trojans are not only sitting at the top of their league, but of the state; they were ranked among the top 25 Class B teams in New York.

The Trojans traveled to Dobbs Ferry on Tuesday, Dec. 19 to face off against the Eagles. On their hot streak to start the year, the team showed no signs of slowing down. Sophomore Kendall Konigsberg once again led the scoring with 29 points, while senior captain Kyra Mak tacked on another 14. Ultimately, Blind Brook swiftly took down Dobbs Ferry, winning 56-45.

For their final game of 2023, the Trojans got on the bus to take on Hastings on Thursday, Dec. 21. To no fan or the team’s surprise, the sophomore Konigsberg once again dominated for her best game of the season thus far, netting 32 points for Blind Brook. Mak added 13 points to the lead, while twin sophomores Oriah and Ella Rosenfeld led the team on defense in rebounds. The Trojans once again came out on top 58-49, entering 2024 undefeated for the season.

Following a much-needed break after several weeks of top-notch basketball, Blind Brook’s girls got back on the court on Thursday, Jan. 4 away at Briarcliff. The Bears proved to be the toughest matchup yet for the Trojans, outscoring any of the team’s previous opponents by at least 20 points. And the Trojans were willing to take up the challenge. In a game of tight defense on the team’s top scorers, Konigsberg, Mak—despite injury—and Oriah Rosenfeld all scored high, netting 26, 16, and 15 points respectively. In the high-scoring tossup, Blind Brook ultimately prevailed, topping the Bears 72-69 to make them the only undefeated team in Class B through six games.

To round out the week on Friday, Jan. 5, Blind Brook traveled to Ardsley to take on the Class A powerhouse Panthers. For the first time this season, the Trojans found in the Panthers a team they simply could not outmatch. As in every game thus far, Konigsberg led scoring with 16 points, followed by freshman Carly Hodes with 7. Without their usual sharpshooting prowess, Blind Brook fell 62-34 to Ardsley for their first loss of the season. Although the game did not end in a win, it taught the team two important lessons: it’s okay to not always play perfectly and there is always room for improvement.

The Trojans will move across town on Friday, Jan. 12 for a rivalry match against Rye Neck, tipping off at 4:30 p.m. After the long weekend, the team will come back home on Tuesday, Jan. 15 to face off against Westlake at 4:30 p.m. Finally, Blind Brook will get back on the road on Thursday, Jan. 17 for a late-night game against Pleasantville, starting at 6:15 p.m.
