Port Chester's bowling Rams came out of the winter break with several bowlers continuing to show improvement despite a loss to Mamaroneck last Wednesday (1/3) at Bowlerland near Co-Op City in the Bronx.

While an L wasn't the way the bowlers wanted to start the new year, head coach Jeanine Maiolini's ever-improving young team walked away from the loss knowing that the Rams and Lady Rams squads keep getting better by learning from the Ls.

Knock on wood

The Rams lost to Mamaroneck by total wood of 2,122 to 1,483.

But even in losing, the Rams saw that their scores kept on improving and that is the name of their game now.

Nazir Demera averaged 115 for the match with his best games including 106 in game one with four spares, and 124 in game two with two strikes and two spares.

Austin Nij came next with an average of 109 for the match with highs of 119 (including two strikes and two spares in game one), 108 (with three strikes and a spare in game two) and a low of 101 in game three with two strikes and a spare.

The Rams’ other high scorers included Diego Flores who averaged 107 for the match while Gabriel Cueto averaged 89.

The leading ladies

The Lady Rams lost by total wood of 1,675 to 1,388.

Sophia Maldonado led the team with an average of 106 for the match with a high of 116 in game one with a strike and three spares.

Skylar Sams was close behind with an average of 104 for the match which included a strike and three spares in game one and two and a high of 117 in game three with a strike and three spares. Next came Gioella Pastena and Lesley Santamaria with game averages of 96 and 93.

The bottom line of all those scores and ups and downs is that the team is starting to find its groove and continuing to improve despite having to commute to the Bronx to practice and play their games at Bowlerland. And they hope to keep right on improving in their next match Wednesday (1/17) against New Rochelle at 3:30 p.m. with the suspense mounting as to who will lead the team in scoring this time around.
