Bowling Rams, Lady Rams come up short during twin loss to Harrison at Bowlerland
January 18, 2024 at 12:04 a.m.
Blame it on the weather, wind, rain, snow, chill, whatever, but it is hard if not impossible to win a bowling match when only three Port Chester bowlers show up at Bowlerland near Co-Op City in the Bronx to compete against a starting five from Harrison. So it wasn't surprising that the Huskies rolled over the Rams by total wood of 2,073-799. The Lady Rams had their full contingent but still lost to their Lady Huskies counterparts by a score of 1,476-1,204. So you could say that the Port Chester bowlers have been having more than their share of ups and downs of late.
In their latest match last Monday (1/8) against Harrison, for example, Bowlerland was a lonely place for the Rams because two of their starters were MIA, leaving the match in the hands of Gabriel Cueto, Tony Nievecela and Franklyn Cando. But six hands on deck are no match for the 10 hands of opposing scorers no matter how hard you shuffle them.
The Ram scorers
Cueto led the Rams by averaging 103 for the match, bowling 104 with a strike in game one, 107 in game two with two strikes while dropping to 98 in game three with three spares when the strikes went on strike.
Nievecela came next with a 95 average for the match that included an 83 in game one with two strikes, 80 in game two and 133 in game three with five spares. Cando rolled an average of 65 for the match with a 79 and a strike in game one, 71 in game two with two strikes and a spare and 44 in game three.
Top Lady Rams
Emily Garcia led the Lady Rams scorers with a 97 average for the match, hitting 75 with a spare in game one, 108 in game two with a strike and two spares and 107 with a strike and four spares. Skylar Sams was second best, rolling to an 88 average for the match while racking up an 85 with a strike and a spare in game one, a 99 with a strike and two spares in game two and 79 in game three with a spare.
The other Lady Rams scorers included Sophia Maldonado with an 83 average for the match, Gioella (80) and Jaresiah McDonald (52).
Head coach Jeanine Maiolini's bowling Rams and Lady Rams hope to have a better day in their next match Wednesday (1/24) at 3:30 p.m. against Yorktown at Bowlerland, site of all the matches. Especially if all five potential scoring bowlers on each Port Chester team show up.
