Halfway through the regular season, Blind Brook’s girls’ basketball team still looks like a top contender for Class B Section 1 champions. Following an undefeated power surge to start the season, the Trojans have begun to level off; however, they still linger at the top of the league standings with an 8-3 record. Even with two hard and unexpected losses this week, it has been proven that when they win, they really win.

The Trojans took on Valhalla for the first home game of the season on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Against a weak Vikings team and in front of their first home crowd, the Trojans dominated, scoring throughout the game. Sophomore Kendall Konigsberg had yet another 20+ point game, netting 22 points for the Trojans, with sophomore Ella Rosenfeld tacking on another 10. Blind Brook took an easy victory against Valhalla 49-31, cruising their way into their next game.

After the dominant win against Valhalla, the Trojans saw no reason why they could not outdo themselves on Friday, Jan. 12 away at Rye Neck. Blind Brook took the same powerful energy on the road and took on the crosstown rivals high on victory. Konigsberg once again led Trojan scoring with 19 points, while senior captain Kyra Mak remained not far behind with 14. Blind Brook proved to be impenetrable on defense against the Panthers, which ultimately led them to their 43-22 win.

Due to a series of snow cancellations, Blind Brook took over a week to get back on the court, taking on the Pleasantville Panthers away on Saturday, Jan. 20. On a rare off day for the Trojans, the team was defeated by Pleasantville 50-33. The home game on Tuesday, Jan. 23 against Woodlands ended in a similarly heartbreaking fashion, down by one point at the buzzer to lose 57-56. While the two losses can sting on paper, it is essential to look at factors that point to future success. In every game so far this season, Konigsberg, an underclassman, has been the team’s leading scorer, with a young core thriving under the veteran leadership of Mak. There is little to worry about for this team.

The Trojans’ much anticipated Homecoming match will be on Friday, Jan. 26 against Croton-Harmon, tipping off at 5:30 p.m. before the boys’ game at 7:30 p.m. against Hastings. The Blind Brook girls will stay at home for their next game on Tuesday, Jan. 30 against Briarcliff at 4:30 p.m. Finally, the Trojans will this time travel to Valhalla on Thursday, Feb. 1 for a rematch of the Jan. 10 win starting at 5:30 p.m.
