Playland Park, the historic amusement park and waterfront destination in Rye, has announced a first-time participation with The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester to offer live music and entertainment at Playland’s Main Stage every other weekend from July 6-Sept. 1. The first event on July 6 at 7 p.m. will feature the Playland Summer Sounds Concert Series. Future concerts in the series will include 1 Wild Night—Bon Jovi Tribute; Jacknife Lori—90’s All Rock Hits; Half Step—Grateful Dead Tribute; Damn the Torpedoes—Tom Petty Concert Experience and Taylor’s Version—A Swiftie Dance Party. In addition, weekly Friday and Saturday night fireworks start June 28 at 9 p.m. plus a special show, Thurs., July 4. The fireworks display is launched from the end of the pier at Playland and is viewable from the amusement park, the Playland Boardwalk and from Rye Town Park. In addition, starting Sun., July 7 at 2 p.m. and continuing every other week until Sept. 1, Playland and The Capitol Theatre will present The Rock and Roll Playhouse, a family concert series that translates some of music’s most recognizable anthems into age-appropriate sing-alongs suitable for listeners of all ages, with classic titles from a variety of genres such as classic rock, new wave, pop, and pop-punk. The concert series will feature interactive kid-friendly covers of Queen, Talking Heads, Taylor Swift, Blink 182, and The Beatles, and more.

William Jeton of Port Chester, assigned to the 1569th Transportation Company, received a promotion May 2 to the rank of sergeant. Major General Ray Shields, the adjutant general for the State of New York, announced the promotion of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership. Army National Guard promotions are based on a soldier's overall performance, demonstrated leadership abilities, professionalism and future development potential. These promotions recognize the best qualified soldiers for a career in the New York Army National Guard.

Sebastian Alvarez, Alyssa Arnett, Marcos Cueto, Gabriela D’Emilio, Brandon Farewell, Ashley Ferraro and William MacAllister, all of Port Chester, have been named to the Dean’s List at SUNY Cortland for the Spring 2024 semester. The Dean's List is the highest ranking for undergraduate students in their respective academic areas of the university. Students must earn a minimum 3.3 grade point average for the semester to make the list. Sebastian is majoring in Exercise Science; Alyssa is majoring in Inclusive Childhood Education; Marcos is majoring in Sports Management; Gabriela is majoring in Communication Studies; Brandon is majoring in Adolescence Education—Social Studies; Ashley is majoring in Social Philosophy and William is majoring in Physical Education K-12.

Matthew Giuliano of Rye Brook graduated Magna Cum Laude May 19 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa.

Jaxson Doornick of Port Chester and Jack Irish of Rye Brook were named to the Dean’s List at the Rochester Institute of Technology for the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. Full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean's List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.400; they do not have any grades of "Incomplete", "D" or "F"; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours. Jaxson is in the electrical engineering program; Jack is in the humanities, computing and design program.
