Howard W. Hine: Garage owner and car aficionado

Howard W. Hine, 77, of Port Chester, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, died peacefully June 20, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut.

He was born Dec. 31, 1946, in Bridgeport, Conn., to Harold and Doris Hine.

Howie's journey began in the heart of Bridgeport, where he grew up surrounded by the love of his family and the community that would become an integral part of his life.

His devotion to his wife Susan, the former Susan Iverson, whom he married Sept. 3, 1995, was the cornerstone of his existence.

He was the proud owner and operator of Hine Brothers Garage, a local institution that thrived under his guidance.

His love for cars went beyond the garage doors, as he was an avid car enthusiast known for his prized possession, a red 1930 Ford Coupe affectionately named "Two Timer."

His presence at car shows and automotive events was a highlight for many, as he shared his knowledge and passion with fellow enthusiasts.

Howie is survived by his wife Susan Iverson-Hine, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Theresa Iverson; son Billy Hine and daughter-in-law Jennifer, granddaughter Nikki Hine, his first wife, Terry Hine, his sister and brother-in-law Bob and Lori Reiling and sister Diana Hine; in addition, his brother-in-law Bobby Iverson and Jodi Grant, sister-in-law Karen Iverson, godson Bobby Iverson, Jr. and niece Danielle Iverson as well as Ann and Jim Rinaldi and their two children, Gina and Elena Rinaldi, all he held dear to his heart.

His character was defined by his loving nature, his friendly demeanor, and his selfless approach to life.

He was the kind of person who always put others before himself, offering a helping hand or a listening ear to anyone in need.

His impact on the lives of others was immeasurable, as he touched the hearts of many with his kindness and compassion.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 26 at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye.
