Richard (Richie) A. Coletti: U.S. Army MP and barber

Richard (Richie) A. Coletti, 77, a longtime resident of Cos Cob, Conn., died peacefully Feb. 29, 2024, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Port Chester June 5, 1946, the loving son of Dino and Louise (Vitti) Coletti who predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Terry (Bisanzo) Coletti, and children Richie (Gianna Harris), Valerie (Coletti) Sabato (Ted Sabato), Nick Coletti and Allison Coletti; grandchildren Teddy Sabato Jr., Aaron Sabato, Gwenn Sabato, Gavin Coletti, Mia Coletti and Carly Coletti and his twin sister, Joan Corbett.

Mr. Coletti graduated from Port Chester High School with the class of 1964, where he lettered in baseball and basketball.

From 1966 to 1968, he proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman.

Upon his return, he began his career as a barber alongside his father at ‘Ridge Barber’ in Rye Brook, then continued the business for another 52 years as ‘Ridge Barber Shop’ until he retired in 2020.

His love of sports was like no other; he will undoubtedly be remembered as a devoted coach, referee, umpire and beyond-skilled baseball, softball and basketball player.

Not only was he an amazing father and grandfather, but also was a mentor to many on and off the court, field, and barber chair, dedicating his life to uplifting everyone he encountered.

His ability to draw those in with a story and a smile paired with his compassion and generosity to all were infectious.

His enthusiastic spirit will be felt and remembered, leaving an infinite legacy to his family and friends.

A wake was held Thurs., Mar. 7 at Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Fri., Mar. 8 at St. Catherine’s of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave., Riverside, Conn., at 10 a.m.
