The dream of Courtney Bellew, HUB Veterinary Group opened with fanfare on Thursday, Mar. 7 at 316 Boston Post Rd.

Bellew attended several meetings before the Port Chester Planning Commission to gain permission for the change of use of the site from its previous longtime utilization as a restaurant—from No. 1 Pizza to Ruffalo’s to Pacifico to Il Sogno.

“We want this to be a hub of veterinary care,” she said. “We hope to be affordable. We’ll never turn anyone away.”

Most of the staff come from the pet rescue world.

Lead veterinarian Nicole Peta said: “They reached out to me. I have always done rescue in the area.”

“We will try to come in more affordable, especially on big surgeries,” she added.

Carlos Gomez of White Plains, who was at the grand opening celebration with his chihuahua Bea, said he knew Tabitha Landow, HUB’s practice manager, because she helped him rescue the dog a year ago.

Bernadette Vinci of Port Chester, who runs a non-profit to ensure all pets have access to health care, was also at the opening.

So was Linda Turturino of Port Chester, a member of the Port Chester Dog Park Group and owner of multiple dogs of all breeds from way back.

With the large number of people owning dogs and cats and the difficulty getting an appointment at the two existing veterinary clinics in Port Chester, which are merging into one entity owned by veterinarian Gina Antiaris, HUB Veterinary Group was welcomed by Mayor Luis Marino and Trustee Phil Dorazio.

“I’m very happy to have another vet in the village,” said Dorazio.

“Welcome to the village,” said Marino.
