With the spring weather blowing hot and cold, windy and rainy, it hasn't been much of a season so far for the tennis Rams with their one match a doozy and a loss to East Ramapo that couldn't have been much closer despite the final 5-0 score because four of the five matches came down to the very end, were highly competitive and included two tiebreakers.

Christian Yupanqui lost the first singles match by scores of 6-3, 4-6 and 8-10 with the third set including a tiebreaker.

The second singles match played out along similar lines with Sean Heffernan losing 4-6, 7-5 and 9-11 and his third set also coming down to a tiebreaker.

Manny Coyt lost the third singles match in two sets by scores of 4-6, 3-6.

In the first doubles match, Lucas Cepeda and Christian Jadan lost both sets by two points with the final scores 4-6 and 5-7.

The second doubles teams lost in similar fashion with Manolo Rabanales and Leonardo Velasquez losing both sets by the identical scores of 4-6, 4-6.

"Considering we've only had one match and the weather hasn't been exactly cooperative, I think the boys are doing very well and I expect them to keep on getting better," veteran head coach Craig Holcomb said after the match.

Holcomb is used to close matches having been the Rams’ former basketball coach, the last coach to lead the Rams into the semi-finals of the Sectional championship playoffs at the County Center in White Plains in 2013 with the team led by pre-season McDonald's All-America Anthony (Scooby) Ordonez. The Rams lost close to defending champion Spring Valley, the team that went on to win the championship in Westchester's Madison Square Garden-like hoops mecca.

Holcomb thinks his tennis Ram racqueteers have a chance to win in their upcoming home matches against Mount Vernon Thursday (5/2 after press time) with a return match scheduled for Friday (5/3) against East Ramapo. He would love to reverse that earlier close loss to Ramapo in the Rams’ only spring match of the season so far. So the Rams will come out swinging, schedule permitting.
