B.B. boys’ lacrosse strives to make the playoffs one game at a time

In the world of sports, the thrill of winning and the sadness of defeat intertwine. For the Blind Brook boys’ lacrosse team, the past week has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions, ending with two victories and one defeat.

The team had a game versus New Rochelle on Wednesday, May 8 on the Huguenots’ turf. Blind Brook ended up taking the 14-5 win home and celebrating the amazing accomplishments of two of the team’s star players.

Seniors Hudson McRedmond and Michael Berman Annunziata each had two assists with Berman Annunziata adding three goals to the scoreboard as well as reaching his 100th career goal. Tyler Taerstein scored six goals and had two assists in this game, also reaching 100 career goals and his 200th career point as a sophomore.

“Passing 100 goals honestly fills me with pride and confidence, and now I'm eagerly setting my sights on achieving even greater milestones in the future of Blind Brook lacrosse,” said Taerstein in reflecting upon the accomplishment.


In addition, Chase Katz got one goal and three assists and Zach Taerstein got one goal and two assists. Gavin Zislis, Seth Low, and Jack Mallah each sunk one goal along with one assist each from Zislis and Low. Tomo Yamano also had one assist.

The next game for the Trojans was on Friday, May 10 against Albertus Magnus. The home game ended in yet another victory for the Trojans. The boys showed extreme determination and skill, winning 17-4 and capping off the game with a great finish.

From start to end, the team was set on making their offensive plays work and keeping their solid defense alert. Each player had a standout performance on and off the field.

Hudson McRedmond maintained five goals plus three assists in this contest. Berman Annunziata had two assists. Katz and Martin Otero each had two goals with Katz also accomplishing four assists. Tyler and Zach Taerstein had two assists each, Tyler made four goals and Zach sunk one. Low, Yamano and Gavin Zislis each added one goal to the game as well And Trevor Feist had one assist.

Uplifted by their two successes, the team approached their next game away against Byram Hills with confidence.

The game was fiercely contested, with both teams failing to back down. Despite their best efforts, the Trojans found themselves taking the loss in a closely fought 7-6 battle.

Eighth grader Ethan Carey got one goal. Berman Annunziata and Katz each had two assists. Tyler Taerstein had three goals and Zach Taerstein scored one goal. Yamano ended the game with one goal and one assist.

Beyond the wins and losses for the boys, their values this season included sportsmanship, teamwork, strength, and development. As they continue their season, Blind Brook remains committed to pushing their limits, overcoming challenges, and striving for excellence on and off the field.

Throughout these past three games of the Trojans’ season, the most important player who has shown his dedication to the program is Ethan Leland. The senior goalie has helped his team win their games by working hard and communicating well with his teammates. He currently has an overall saving percentage of 60.4%, having made 151 saves out of 250 shots on goal. A great performance from Leland this season with the hope of seeing more of the same during playoffs.

The Trojans’ last regular season game was on Tuesday, May 14 at Irvington. The boys returned to their winning ways and overcame the challenges they confronted.

After the Byram Hills loss, the boys realized the problems they needed to fix to win their last game and obtain a good spot in the playoffs. Winning by a wide 14-5 margin, Blind Brook added to their list of victories and increased their chances of receiving a decent playoff seed.

Carey had three goals. McRedmond had one goal and one assist. Berman Annunziata had four goals and two assists, Katz had one goal and three assists. Tyler Taerstein had two goals and three assists. Zach Taerstein had two assists. Yamano had two goals and Otero had one.

The Trojans will be facing North Salem in their first playoff game at home on Friday, May 17 at 4:30 p.m.

They are focused on outworking everyone as they aim for a deep playoff run.
