As the softball season comes to an end, this year’s Blind Brook varsity team has a bright future to look forward to. Although this season did not turn out as hoped, the young team goes into next year with a continuing momentum and a load of heart.
The Trojans end the 2024 season with a 2-17 record, without a win in any of the 10 games played within the league. Blind Brook recorded their two wins against the Barack Obama School for Social Justice and Riverside towards the beginning of the season, decisively winning 16-1 and 29-13, respectively. Due to ranking last out of the 12 teams in the league, the Trojans did not qualify for the Sectionals Tournament in the postseason and ended the season with a 26-11 loss to Westlake.
Though the numbers in the books show a difficult year for the Trojans, the stats do not show the strong potential for the team in the coming years. With no graduating seniors, there will be a key consistency between this year’s team and next year’s team quite unique to this group, a consistency that can be a key player both on and off the field. Additionally, the strong core of young talent will only continue to develop throughout the offseason, putting the team in a prime position to be true contenders. Underclassman captains Charlotte Florin and Bella Montesano headline a team filled with love for the game and ever-developing talent.
While the results may not have been what the team wanted, Blind Brook’s squad embodies the hard-working attitude all athletes should strive to bring to their respective sports. The Trojans showed up to every game ready to give it their all, and played on, even if it was not going as planned. Although opponents often topped the Trojans, the team never let it get to them and continued to put forth a strong offense to run totals in double digits. It is this heart that gets a player far in a sport and far in life.
