The Blind Brook Trojans ended their regular season with a 6-14 record. While the numbers don’t look great, the Trojans overcame a lot in what has been a rollercoaster of a season.
It all began when the boys found out that their home field on the Blind Brook campus was no longer safe for competition and the team had to find a new home field. The Trojans knew this would be a challenge and playing on a whole new field would be a totally different experience, diminishing their home-field advantage and playing on a rougher surface.
This setback was followed by many notable injuries, including Northeastern University commit Andrew Rogovic, who has been limited all year by a blister on his throwing hand. Sophomore southpaw Asher Toll has been dealing with back issues all season long, and neither star pitcher was present for most of the season for the Trojans. Despite the many obstacles the Trojans have faced, they continued to adapt and work hard all season, which led them to the first round of the playoffs on Saturday, May 18 on the turf of Dobbs Ferry High School.
Offensively, both teams were very slow. The Trojans felt good with Rogovic on the mound, who took them through four innings before his blister became too much to handle. Recording eight strikeouts, letting up no hits and no earned runs, Rogovic did his job, but the Trojans defense did not. The Trojans allowed multiple runners on base, two of whom made it around the bases to score due to poor fielding. The score was 2-0 after four innings, all due to errors.
Asher Toll relieved Rogovic, who was near-perfect. Allowing only one hit in two innings with three strikeouts, Toll let in no runs and the game remained 2-0. Offensively, the Trojans were unable to make anything happen. Two hits from Zach Schneider and one from Daniel Glantz weren’t enough. The Trojans put zero on the board, falling 2-0 in the first round of the playoffs, ending their season.
The seniors were a huge aspect of the Trojans’ league champion run last year, as well as leading the team this year. Rogovic, Schneider and Zac Rosenblatt have all been big contributors and have dedicated so much to the Blind Brook baseball program for the past few years. The Trojans thank them for their efforts and will continue to support Rogovic as he continues his baseball career at Northeastern.
“As a returning varsity player and always being younger, I have found it very helpful to look up to our seniors. This year especially, with a younger team, these three seniors really took a leadership role,” said Asher Toll when asked about what the seniors taught him. “They are people I see not just as friends, but as family, and they taught me amazing things that I will always remember. They taught me what it’s like to be a leader and putting the team before yourself. I know the season didn’t go the way we wanted, but I am really happy I got to spend practices and games with these kids, and I know they will do great things in the future.”
