Clay Art Center, 32 Beech St., Port Chester is offering Around the World in Clay, a free after-school clay program for Port Chester public school students in grades 2-12, thru Dec. 19. The program teaches students about the history and importance of ceramics in various cultures around the world, while also giving each student the freedom to interpret and create themed projects using their own unique perspective and imagination. Limited enrollment. Guided Tours of Exhibits and Studios, every Wednesday thru Dec. 23, 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Free, but appointments are necessary. Holiday Plates & Platters, Sat., Nov. 23., 2-4 p.m. Ages 17+. Learn to make basic handbuilt plates or bring your own leather-hard pieces to decorate with holiday motifs. On Thurs., Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. there will be a Virtual Meet & Greet with the 2024-25 Residency cohort: Rittenberg Artist in Residence Carley Holzem, Second Year Artist in Residence Evelyn Mika, Artist in Residence Christine Raposas and Westchester Community Foundation Fellow Stefanie Perez. Governor Alfred DelBello. A book signing will follow his talk. The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library, 1 Haseco Ave., Port Chester will host a Spanish-English Conversation Exchange, Sat., Nov. 23, Dec. 7, 14 & 21, 12-1:30 p.m. Participants will speak for 45 minutes in English and 45 minutes in Spanish. An intermediate conversational level is recommended, but all levels are welcome as long as you’re willing to try having a conversation; or, if you don’t feel comfortable speaking, you’re free to listen. Bulk trash is collected every Wednesday in Port Chester except during holiday weeks. The next collection will be Dec. 4. There will be no further green waste collection until spring.
