The Blind Brook girls’ varsity tennis team continues to roll this season, securing three more wins last week to leave the team 7-0 in league play (and 8-1 overall).
The team started off the week with an out of league win against Rye Neck on Monday, Sept. 23. Despite the rain delay, first singles captain Ella Mensch rolled to a win (8-4), and second doubles team Avery Smith and Mallory Schwartz and third doubles team Maddie Fishbach and Abigail Weintraub both pulled through victories for the team (8-4 and 8-6, respectively).
The girls then travelled to The Leffell School on Wednesday, Sept. 25, where the team won 4-1. Second singles Mia Fishkind and first doubles team Madilyn Klein and Mara Baltag both came back from being down a set to win intense tie breakers (Fishkind - 2-6, 6-2, 10-7, and Klein/ Baltag – 2-6, 7-6, 10-7). And second doubles team Avery Smith and Sara Levine and third doubles team Maddie Fishbach and Mallory Schwartz quickly defeated their opponents (Smith/Levine - 6-0, 6-0, Fishbach/Schwartz – 6-2, 6-1).
The Trojans finished out the week with their homecoming match on Friday, Sept. 27 against Keio Academy. After an inspiring rose ceremony honoring seniors Ella Mensch, Madilyn Klein and Mikayla Dolgins, the team beat Keio 4-0.
“It was an emotional day after being on this team for four years,” said captain Mensch. “I’m just so happy that the team came out and played they way they did. It is an incredible feeling to win a homecoming match and stay undefeated!”
“Winning our homecoming match was unforgettable, especially for our three seniors, Ella Mensch, Madilyn Klein and Mikayla Dolgins,” said coach Todd Bazzini. “We received incredible support from the school, parents and friends, and that energy propelled us to another victory.”
Next up the girls took on Croton-Harmon at home on Monday, Sept. 30. They then have a week off before returning to the tennis courts on Monday, Oct. 7 for an away match against Briarcliff followed by two home matches: Tuesday, Oct. 8 versus Edgemont and Wednesday, Oct. 9 versus Pleasantville. All matches start at 4:30 p.m.
