Following their homecoming win, the Blind Brook boys’ varsity soccer team waited five days for their next matchup. In that time, the Trojans remained sharp, focusing on getting many touches on the ball. This preparation is crucial for the matchups to come over the next few weeks. The boys have reached the point in the season where they are playing the best competition in the league, two of those being Rye Neck and Westlake, who were the matchups during the week of Sept. 29. to Oct. 5.

The Trojans took a day of practice, focusing on conditioning and control before traveling to face Rye Neck on Tuesday, Oct. 1. This is one of the most anticipated matchups of the season for the boys and was destined to be close from the starting whistle. Both teams had great chances to score, but neither team was able to capitalize, with Blind Brook goalkeeper Luka Cuk playing a big part in that. Eighty minutes came and went, and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Trojans practiced on Wednesday before taking Thursday off to commemorate Rosh Hashanah. After a quick practice Friday, the Trojans met up at 12 noon the following day, Saturday, Oct. 5, for a team lunch. A few hours after some chicken parmesan, rice and potatoes the Trojans returned home to face Westlake.

Senior Cooper Schloss moves the ball along with his right foot in the Trojans’ Saturday, Oct. 5 home win over Westlake. Schloss set the ball up for captain Dylan McRedmond to score in the second half of that 3-2 victory over the Wildcats.

Three minutes into the game, a costly mistake from the Westlake goalkeeper and Nico Palacios gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead. This lead lasted throughout the rest of the half and doubled after junior So Achiwa found the back of the net five minutes into the second half for a 2-0 lead, assisted by captain Quique Almeida. The Blind Brook lead was cut in half after a Westlake goal about midway through the second half. However, a few minutes later, Cooper Schloss sent a ball into the middle that was perfect for captain Dylan McRedmond to finish, and the Trojans again found themselves in a 2-goal lead. A Westlake score in the final 10 minutes was not enough, and the Trojans hung on to win at home by a 3-2 score.

Despite the win, the Trojans were slower and sloppier on the ball than usual. They met for a 7:45 a.m. practice the following day to clean some things up before the big week ahead. The boys would face the Pleasantville Panthers on Monday, Oct. 7 and the Briarcliff Bears on Wednesday, Oct. 9, both games at home, before some days off to observe Yom Kippur and Columbus Day. They will pick up play away against Valhalla on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. followed by a home rematch against Rye Neck on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 4:30 p.m.
