The Blind Brook girls’ varsity tennis team ended their best regular season on record—winning the league with a 10-0 record.

“Our girls’ motivation to finish the season strong has truly paid off,” said Coach Todd Bazzini. “Their commitment has been inspiring and being League Champions is absolutely incredible!”

The road to victory was not always easy, but the girls pulled through on every important match in the past few weeks. On Monday, Sept. 30, the team went 5-0 at home against Croton-Harmon High School.  Singles players Ella Mensch and Mia Fishkind won easily (Mensch - 6-1, 6-2 and Fishkind - 6-1, 6-1), while the doubles teams swept their opponents decisively—Madilyn Klein and Mara Baltag (6-2, 7-5), Abigail Weintraub and Maddie Fishbach (6-2, 6-2), and Avery Smith and Julia Mensch (8-1).

Then the girls went on the road to play at Briarcliff High School on Monday, Oct. 7, winning the match 4-1 (Mensch 6-3, 6-2, Fishkind 6-2, 6-3, Avery Smith and Sara Levine at second doubles 6-3, 7-5, and Maddie Fishbach and Abigail Weintraub at third doubles 6-1, 6-0).

The team closed out its regular season with a sweep against Pleasantville High School at home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, with Mensch, Fishkind, Klein, Weintraub, Smith and Levine playing near perfect matches in the final victory.

The team’s undefeated performance has secured them the title of League Champion and now they automatically advance to the playoffs, which started on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Harrison High School.

Before team playoffs, captain Ella Mensch and Mia Fishkind also competed at the Section 1 Tournament held at Harrison High School on Sunday, Oct. 13. Playing doubles together, Mensch and Fishkind dominated their match against John Jay High School, with the entire team there to support them, winning 7-5, 6-2.

“This entire season felt so special,” Ella Mensch said. “From the beginning, this team came together and under Coach Todd, we really proved what we could do throughout every match of the season. I could not be more proud of every member of this team, and I am so excited the 2024 BBGVT will always be remembered as League Champs!”
