Kay T. Oen, DDS, 78, of Stamford, Conn., died Aug. 29, 2024 after a prolonged illness.
He was born in Semarang, Indonesia and was brought up in the Netherlands, Indonesia, and Japan.
After graduating from Marist Brothers High School in Kobe, Japan, he attended Columbia College and Columbia University School of Dentistry.
Upon attaining his degree in dentistry, he opened a general dentistry practice in Port Chester and was a member of the Board of Trustees, a Fellow, and a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry.
After several decades in practice, he joined the faculty of the NYU School of Dentistry, where he enjoyed teaching the practice of dentistry to students who came from all over the world until his retirement in September 2023.
During his career he was also involved in many community activities, such as the Rotary Club of Port Chester, the Salvation Army, and the YMCA.
Dr. Oen is survived by his wife Helen, his son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Jessica; his daughter Karin and son-in-law Jonathan and two grandsons, Derek and Bennett, as well as his sisters Kiem and Judy, his brother-in-law Ron and a large extended family of cousins, nephews and nieces in Canada, the Netherlands and Indonesia.
He took great pride in his children and enjoyed his grandchildren, taking them on summer vacation activities, and was a great planner of family events, including birthday and graduation parties and family reunions.
He will be remembered for his kindness, caring, generosity, and wry wit.
A memorial service was held on Sept. 2 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home in Greenwich.
Ronald Seth Tumpowsky, 49, of Chappaqua, a former Rye Brook resident, died suddenly July 19, 2024.
He was born May 15, 1975 and was raised in Rye Brook, where he attended school, graduated from Blind Brook High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Colgate University.
He was a natural athlete and teammate, competed on an elite level in both basketball and soccer throughout high school and was a goalie on the Colgate varsity soccer team.
He was a lifelong NY Rangers fan, a passion he shared with his father, brother and many close friends.
Ron was the founder and CEO of Monolith Marketing, a boutique marketing partnership development and media consultancy based in NYC which was founded following his nearly two-decade career driving partnerships for global platforms including FIFA, the NBA and IMG Fashion.
He was predeceased by his mother Marcia and is survived by his wife, Jennifer Powell Tumpowsky, two sons, Robert Henry Tumpowsky and Harrison Powell Tumpowsky, his brother, Paul Adam Tumpowsky, and his father Roy Stuart Tumpowsky of Rye Brook and Delray Beach, Fla.
His love of sports, design, food and entertainment was eclipsed only by the love he felt for his family, especially his two sons.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity and humor.
He is celebrated by all who knew him and will be remembered as an adoring husband, father, son, brother and friend.
Dennis C. Lyndon, 83, of Rye Brook, died Aug. 27, 2024.
He was born July 30, 1941.
He was predeceased by his mother Winifred Lyndon and is survived by his wife Kathryn. his daughters, Katie Kehoe (John), Christina Winstead (Trevor) and Stephanie Storm (Andrew); his three siblings and eight grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held Sept. 3 at the Chapel of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside, Conn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to SoundWaters (https://web.charityengine.net), an organization dedicated to the protection of Long Island Sound, a cause close to his heart.
John Ferdinand De Lorenzo, 78, of Rye died Aug. 3, 2009, at his home after a battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 20, 1930 in the Bronx to Anthony and Sarah De Lorenzo and graduated from Evander Childs High School in the Bronx in 1949 and from Long Island University's Brooklyn College in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
He proudly served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and received the National Defense Good Conduct Service Medal in 1954.
He was a longtime volunteer at Holy Rosary Church and School in Port Chester, serving on the Advisory Board and Finance Committee.
Mr. De Lorenzo did graduate work at New York University on the GI bill and had a long career in accounting and finance from 1956 to 2001, working at Tiffany's, RCA Records, Peer Southern Music Publishing and ACM (American Computing Machinery).
He enjoyed commuting into Manhattan and, upon his retirement, continued to work part-time for the Harrison Public School District from 2001 to 2003.
He was a past member of the Lions Club and while a member of the Resurrection Dad's Club, he helped to start the Rye Girls Softball League, in which all his daughters participated.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Madeleine Johnston, who cared for him at home during his illness, and by his daughters, Erin Bucci, Carin Thomure and Leslie De Lorenzo; sons-in-law, Don Bucci and John Thomure; grandchildren, Anthony, Ciara, Carina and Aliza Bucci and John, Claire, Sophia and Maya; a brother, Anthony De Lorenzo and his wife Ellen; a niece, Madeleine O'Donnell, her husband, John, and children, Christopher and Niam.; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews in Ireland, England and Canada; as well as many dear friends and extended family.
The family received friends at Graham Funeral Home in Rye on Aug. 5; Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 6 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Port Chester.
