After weeks of preparation and anticipation, it was go time for Blind Brook sports the week of Sept. 1-7. After finalizing the team the previous week, the boys’ varsity soccer team had a few practices together, preparing all week for the first game of the season on Friday, Sept. 6.
The day before the match, the Trojans dedicated a big portion of practice to run through the game plan and strategize key points for the match against Putnam Valley the following day. Running a 4-3-3 formation, building out from goalkeeper Luka Cuk and moving the ball around, building to the top of the pitch was emphasized. Another big part of the game plan was set pieces, as the Trojans made various plays for corner kicks that they were excited to try out.
After an hour-long bus ride to Putnam Valley, the boys were finally set to take the field for the first time in 2024 at 5 p.m. Two minutes into the match, senior Noah Brookman struck first, assisted by senior captain Dylan McRedmond to give the Trojans the early lead. In the 11th minute, senior captain Nico Palacios extended the lead to two, with junior Noah Becher adding one more nine minutes later. In the 35th minute, Palacios found the back of the net again, assisted by Cameron Scott. In the 45th minute, it was Scott who then finished it himself, assisted by junior So Achiwa. Senior Jack Gold and junior Chase Katz both cashed in for two more goals to finish off the Putnam Valley Tigers in a 7-0 blowout.
The Trojans were excited to start the season off with a huge win, but they know they have a busy week coming up. They would travel to face off against Scarsdale-B on Tuesday, Sept. 10 before opening their home schedule against Harrison on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The Trojans finish their 3-game week on Friday, Sept. 13 when they host Hastings at 4:30 p.m. Next week they will play one game at home against Croton-Harmon on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 4:30 p.m. followed by an away game vs Briarcliff on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m.
