The Blind Brook girls’ varsity soccer team got to business this past week, winning both their first game of the season and their second game which was the first home contest for the Trojans. This impressive 2-0 achievement not only marks a significant milestone for the team but also sets a promising tone for the rest of the season.

Starting off with their game against Haldane away on Tuesday, Sept. 3, the ladies netted seven goals, winning 7-2. Blind Brook scored six goals in the span of 12 minutes which showed the confidence that has already built within the team.

Junior captain Kayleigh Curran had one goal and two assists, sophomore Daniela Dluzhevsky had two goals, sophomore Sena Tarnoff had one goal and one assist, freshman Gabby Cavallo netted one goal, sophomore Skylar Sommers added another goal, senior captain Natalie Carey had one assist, freshman Hadley Cohen had one goal, and junior Lily Wolf had two saves.

From the first whistle, the game was a fierce contest, but the girls showed remarkable resilience and skill to come out with this score.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Trojans overcame Croton-Harmon 6-2. Blind Brook built a 3-0 lead heading into halftime, including scoring in the opening minute before rapidly doubling the lead with three goals in a six-minute span early in the second half.

Sophomore Lola Gonzalez added four goals to the scoreboard and one assist, Tarnoff added a brilliant assist which can be argued as the best play of the match, Cavallo had two goals, junior Kendall Konigsberg had one assist, and both junior and senior captains Curran and Carey had one assist.

Senior goalie Anna Vnenchak made five saves.

The team’s coordination and strategic play were evident, as they controlled the pace of the game and executed their tactics with precision.

What’s behind this impressive start? According to Coach Brian Sullivan, the key has been the team's dedication and preparation.

Coach Sullivan shared some words about the team’s execution. “I'm so proud of how these athletes have started this season,” he said. “Our team is gelling on, and off, the field. There is talent and leadership throughout, and I believe that this group is capable of wonderful things, so long as we keep our attention on being our best selves in training and maintaining our focus on our next match."

The words from Coach Sullivan not only reflect how hard the team is working between practices and off the field but also how they handle themselves after winning. The girls have demonstrated that one win is not good enough for them, and they are hungry for more victories to come to them this season.

As the team takes in the glow of their early successes, the focus now shifts to maintaining momentum throughout the season. With a blend of experienced seniors and promising newcomers, the Trojans are well-positioned for a strong performance.

Blind Brook played another home game on Tuesday, Sept. 10 against North Salem and will next face Hastings away on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m.

Both matches are necessary wins for the ladies' mindsets to continue their winning streak.

They will then have two more away contests next week, against Yonkers Montessori Academy on Monday, Sept. 16 and against Valhalla on Wednesday, Sept. 18, both at 4:30 p.m. Their next home game is next Friday, Sept. 20 vs Briarcliff, also starting at 4:30 p.m.
