The Blind Brook girls’ varsity tennis team extended its winning streak last week and is now 5-0 in league play—a new record for the team.

The girls pulled out an incredible 4-1 win on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at home against Briarcliff. First singles captain Ella Mensch and second singles Mia Fishkind both were down a set and came back to win their respective matches in intense tie breakers (Mensch, 1-6, 6-1 (10-7), Fishkind 6-7, 6-0 (10-8). Second doubles team Madilyn Klein and Mara Baltag overpowered their opponents (6-2, 6-4) and third doubles team Abigail Weintraub and Mikayla Dolgins won easily (10-3).

The team then travelled to Pleasantville on Friday, Sept. 20, where several members of the Pleasantville team were injured and had to pull out of the match. However, Fishkind dominated her second singles match (6-0. 6-3) and doubles team Weintraub and Sara Levine quickly defeated their opponents (6-0, 6-1) to secure the win for the team.

“These girls are on a roll,” said coach Todd Bazzini. “It’s exciting to watch them come together. Truly remarkable from our humble beginnings. I think we could accomplish more in terms of wins and hopefully the playoffs are in our future.”

Next up the girls would take on Rye Neck at home Monday, Sept. 23, followed by an away match at Lefell on Wednesday, Sept. 25. They will finish off the week with Keio Academy at home for homecoming on Friday, Sept. 27 at 4:30 p.m. and then play at home again on Monday, Sept. 30 vs. Croton-Harmon, also at 4:30 p.m.
