About 40 people take off from the starting line on Putnam Avenue on Saturday morning, Oct. 10 for the 17th annual Port Chester 5K run/walk. The Port Chester Recreation Department raised about $1,300 for the Port Chester/Rye Brook ARC, which supports individuals with special needs.
Pedro Yupa of Irving Avenue hustles down Putnam Avenue to cross the finish line. For the second year in a row, the 31-year-old was the first to complete the 5K. This year he did so in 18 minutes, 59 seconds, shaving off 43 seconds compared to last year's race.

Eleven-year-old Ava Quartarolo of Hobart Avenue accepts a plaque from Heather Krakowski, the Port Chester recreation supervisor. With a race time of 28 minutes and 42 seconds, Quartarolo was the first woman to finish the 5K.
