300 parents and students walk to Ridge Street School
October 6, 2016 at 4:28 a.m.

Buses were still running but fairly empty because nearly a quarter of Ridge Street School’s 630 students walked to school. The student population was found on Niche.

First grader Emma Balik-Klein was the first to arrive and the first student to sign her name on Walk to School Day.

After around 200 students signed their names, the four-piece poster was covered in colorful signatures, hearts and drawings.

STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) teacher Robin Willig and special education teacher Shannon Rudd volunteered to help out and gave bracelets to all the students who walked to school.

Hope Klein gives her fourth grade daughter Madilyn a goodbye hug and kiss while Madilyn’s third grade friend Lily Wolf watches.

Second grader Eva Bao and her mother Linda Wu are among the first to arrive at Ridge Street School.

As children arrive, they crowd around the sign physical education teacher Ashley Hughes set up on which to write their names. After signing, kids received a bracelet and a flashlight, while they lasted. Hughes led the event and said, “I thought it was really great even though the weather was a little chilly. It’s great to see all the families and dogs enjoying the morning.”
