September 14, 2017 at 4:13 a.m.
With the Port Chester Fire Department posting colors, emcee Port Chester Trustee Frank Ferrara and a memorial wreath in the picture, Rabbi Jaymee Alpert of Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel gives the invocation at the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in Lyon Park on Monday. It marked the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed almost 3,000 people in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Somerset County, Pa.
Port Chester High School senior William Brakewood, standing in front of the September 11 memorial, plays Taps.
First grader Santo Giordano, second grader Evin Eski and third grader Dylan Loja, members of Cub Scout Pack 19, hold their hats over their heart while Gabriella Buccieri sings the National Anthem.
Port Chester Police Lieutenant Charles Nielsen and Scott Moore, administrator of the Port Chester-Rye-Rye Brook EMS, to his right, were among the many first responders in attendance.
Sophia Moore of Troop 2367 was one of the Girl Scouts who took part in the remembrance. The Scouts concluded the ceremony by singing “God Bless America.”
