Rocking the paint
August 23, 2018 at 8:41 a.m.
After drawing a tree in a field, the sky and a dog, John F. Kennedy Elementary School soon-to-be first-grader Alexis Lopez shows off his elaborate rock during a community rock painting event in the Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library community room on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
Edison Elementary School students Dario Estay, 8, and Bianca Garcia, 9, sit with more than 50 other kids eager to decorate several rocks with different colors and designs.
Smith Street resident Anna Rojas, 4, contemplates which color to smother her rock with next.
To create a sparkly effect, rising Port Chester Middle School seventh-grader Sharon Esteche taps two paint brushes together so different colored chips fall on her stone.
With a deceiving name tag that she switched with a friend, John F. Kennedy Elementary School rising fifth-grader Sheyly Poroj (not Daisy) focuses on perfecting her rainbow.
Six-year-old John F. Kennedy student Carlos Rojas is thrilled to see how washing his paint brush turns the water purple.
Madison McConnell (left), Sophia Alonzi and Ariana Casarella compare exactly how many rocks they were able to paint at the library. The friends are excited to be in the same Park Avenue Elementary School second-grade class in a few weeks.
