New year, new class: Blind Brook Meet and Greet
August 30, 2018 at 8:35 a.m.
After realizing all the Hamlet quadruplets have names starting with “M,” Ridge Street Elementary School fourth-grade teacher Allyson Bal tests her spelling abilities to make sure she has Madison (back), Michael, Marissa and Michelle’s names right. The fourth-grade teacher is mingling with all the siblings at the Blind Brook Federation of Teachers-sponsored Meet and Greet on Wednesday, Aug. 29, though only Marissa will be in her class starting Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Rising fourth-grader Jack Scala introduces himself to his new teacher Jen Scardina. Scala is excited because he has lots of friends in the same class this year and Scardina is excited about all the energy that’s sure to bring.
Due to the extreme heat, hundreds of teachers, students and parents attending the annual Blind Brook Meet and Greet cram inside the Middle/High School Commons as opposed to gathering in Harkness Park as usual.
The Meet and Greet isn’t just for introducing students to their new teachers. High School freshman Olivia Zahl poses for a photo with her mother, a friend and the eighth-grade math teacher she “always wanted but never had.” From the left: math teacher Jim Tamucci, freshman Olivia Zahl, freshman Shira Mallan and math teacher Cindy Zahl.
