The succulence of serving
July 12, 2018 at 7:22 a.m.
With a big smile on her face, Serve Day volunteer Jessica Davis, of Westchester Avenue, works to help maintain landscaping in the community garden at the Weber Drive public housing project on Sunday, July 8. Serve Day, sponsored by Redemption Community Church, invited volunteers and gardeners to come out and help clean up the Port Chester Community Gardens, located at Weber Drive, Terrace Avenue and Drew Street housing complexes owned and operated by the Port Chester Housing Authority. Redemption Community Church meets Sunday mornings in one of the AMC Loews movie theaters in Port Chester.
Piper Dant, 6, and her mother Tyra plant flowers together in the Weber Community Garden. Throughout the day, 40 people planted perennials and fruit trees, as well as watered the plants, weeded the garden and cleaned up trash along the streets.
Weber Drive resident Adrenna Albin cares for the potatoes she is growing in her complex’s community garden.
