Springing to beautify Crawford Park
June 21, 2018 at 7:51 a.m.
Around 20 people bring their shovels and gardening gloves to volunteer at Crawford Park for Spring Planting Day. Beautifying the sunken garden was supervised by 16-year-old Rye Neck resident Joseph Yang, who crafted the project to earn his Eagle Scout ranking.
Peter Ayala, a six-year-old, holds the flowers while his father Hugo digs a hole for them in the sunken garden. The Rock Ridge Drive resident father is the Cubmaster of the Rye Brook Cub Scout pack that volunteered for the annual Spring Planting Day on Sunday, June 10, at Crawford Park.
To make way for planting more flowers, Mamaroneck resident Jim DeLitta evens out the dirt in the flowerbed.
While Theresa Stevens, a Paddock Road resident and horticulture advisor to the Friends of Crawford Park, waters the sunken garden, she catches up with her friend Jill Abel of Old Orchard Road.
After wheelbarrowing across the lawn, 17-year-old Mamaroneck resident Adam DeLitta dumps a pile of mulch on a tarp in the sunken garden.
