Caring with a carnival
October 18, 2018 at 5:12 a.m.
The joking, merciless mocking must of have worked, as one of High School Band Director Mike Miceli’s students hits the bullseye causing him to slide into the dunk tank at the second annual Port Chester High School Carnival.
White Plains resident Vijay Jadav’s hair goes wild as he bounces down the inflatable obstacle course slide. The third-grader is enjoying the carnival with his mother Virginia Peterson, a high school computer science teacher.
As her 5-year-old daughter Luna covers her ears to prepare for the pop, high school English as a Second Language teacher and Hawthorne resident Kathryn Zappone throws darts at a board of balloons.
Karly Thomas, the volunteer manning the Soccer Kick Challenge, struggles to knock down a ball that struck the top of the giant scoreboard. The Roanoke Avenue resident is a senior at Port Chester High School.
High School sophomore Erick Umanzor gets a running start to kick the soccer ball at the giant blowup dart board.
While enjoying the carnival with the 3,000 other attendees, Kaitlyn Mestas (left) and Angela Espinal take a moment to pose for a photo. The sophomores made sure to wear blue to show school spirit.
To support an event that raised $5,500 to split between the American Red Cross and the student body, teachers and event organizers wear costumes to create a true carnival atmosphere. From the left: Eric DiNome, Michael Stabile, Rigoberto Martinez, Jacqueline Bisignano, Porfirio Gonzowitz and Jeffrey Kravitz.
As sophomore Lea Maxwell (left) tosses a ball at the hoop, her friends Alexandra Vega and Callie Schultz, also sophomores, closely watch to see if it’s going in.
