Stories all day at JFK
February 7, 2019 at 10:35 a.m.
Children’s book author Roni Schotter (right) animatedly reads her story “Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street” while LitWorld board member Lauren Blum holds up the book for a visual backup on Friday, Feb. 1. They’re reading out loud to John F. Kennedy Elementary School teacher Cheryle Washington’s third-grade classroom for World Read Aloud Day, a global event spurred by LitWorld to advocate for literacy as a human right.
Sitting on a bungee chair in Cheryle Washington’s third-grade glass, Brianna Tyler is totally enthralled as children’s book author Roni Schotter reads “Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street.”
Sherrie Dulworth, a member of the LitWorld advisory council, engages third-graders in Melissa Coletti’s class as she reads “What Do You Do with a Chance” to them. Throughout the day, volunteers from the district, Village of Port Chester and greater community visited every classroom for a 30-minute reading session.
