May 28, 2020 at 10:32 a.m.
Vietnam veteran Richie Kochanowicz of Quintard Drive was one of the few veterans who got wind of the quickly called ceremony.
Port Chester Trustees Frank Ferrara, Alex Payan, Joan Grangenois-Thomas (hidden) and Luis Marino place a memorial wreath in the park.
First responders stand at the edge of the park during the ceremony. Along with service members who gave their lives, first responders and healthcare workers on the front lines battling COVID-19 were recognized.
Port Chester American Legion Firing Squad members Kenny Neilson, Bill Chiappetta, Tommy Giorgi and Vinny Lyons stands at attention while bugler Anthony Bubbico Jr. plays Taps.
Despite mandated social distancing and gatherings limited to 10 due to COVID-19, a last-minute Memorial Day ceremony was organized at Veterans’ Memorial Park in Port Chester, corner of Westchester Avenue and North Regent Street, on Monday, May 25. Local politicians and school board members gather at the central monument in the park.
