Despite COVID-19 flaring up, veterans not forgotten on their day
November 12, 2020 at 7:10 a.m.
Vietnam veteran Jerry Morano of Rye Brook, accompanied by his son Steven of Port Chester, salutes during the Pledge of Allegiance opening the brief, socially distanced Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans’ Memorial Park, corner of Westchester Avenue and North Regent Street, Wednesday morning, Nov. 11.
Former Port Chester Trustee Dan Colangelo gives the invocation at the ceremony honoring all veterans for their service. It was attended by Port Chester Mayor Richard “Fritz” Falanka, Village Trustees Alex Payan, Frank Ferrara and Joan Grangenois-Thomas and County Legislator Nancy Barr, who gather around the central monument in the park.
Port Chester American Legion Firing Squad members Kenny Neilson, Bill Chiappetta, Tommy Giorgi and Vinny Lyons fire shots to honor all veterans while bugler Anthony Bubbico Jr. stands ready to play Taps in memory of those who have died.
Nora and Victoria Gagnon of Rye Brook, almost 3, visit Veterans’ Memorial Park with their nanny as they often do and on Wednesday were surprised when about 25 people showed up for a Veterans Day commemoration.
Former Port Chester Trustee Dan Colangelo, wife Josephine and their grandson take in the ceremony.
