For culture and the children, festival celebrates diversity
July 22, 2021 at 5:16 a.m.
Stamford, Conn. resident Valerie Ruiz, 8, and Norwalk, Conn. resident Liam Tacuri Prada, 8, cross paths on the grass while performing a traditional Peruvian dance at an International Festival at Lyon Park on Sunday, July 18. Organized by the nonprofit Caring & Loving Foundation, the event celebrated cultural diversity, art and folklore while raising money to help Port Chester students.
International Festival attendees peruse dolls, art and jewelry for sale at one of the various vendors setting up an elaborate shop at Lyon Park.
After finishing her performance, Port Chester 7-year-old Nathaly Cabrera and her mother Flor watch other cultural dances together. While the Caring & Loving Foundation traditionally raises money for kids with disabilities, contributions made at the International Festival will be used to buy laptops for local students. Trustee Alex Payan, who helped organize the event on the municipal side, will be facilitating the donation.
Twenty-nine-year-old Neuton Avenue, Port Chester, resident Alvaro Aparicio helps Leslie Cruz, a 25-year-old Oak Street resident, select the perfect bracelet from an array of vibrant jewelry pieces on display at a pop-up shop.
With the Mexican flag waving overhead, a group of performers dressed in gorgeous masks and garb rhythmically dance in front of the showmobile at the park.
